Join us for the second annual Neighborhood Cleanup & Block Party on Thursday, June 24th (raindate Friday, June 25th).  The cleanup will begin and 1pm and run until 4:30 or so, at which time we will transition to a great block party. 

Even if you cannot get out of work to help us with the cleanup (though we hope you can), please stop by and join us after work.  We have almost every restaurant in the District (and a few outside the District) donating food as part of our "Taste of the District" sampling, Narragansett Beer will be donating to slake the thirst of our volunteers, there will be a cash bar at Lot 401, and the incomparable blues/jazz group Sit Down Baby will be performing!

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) is reminding motorists that tonight, Friday, June 4, 2010 at approximately 9 p.m., it will close Exit 2 (South Main Street) from I-195 West. The closure will remain in effect throughout the weekend with the off-ramp reopening prior to the morning commute on Monday, June 7. Motorists seeking access to the East Side of Providence should use Exit 3 (Gano Street) or Exit 1A (Point Street) during this time.

Brown University would like to invite JDA residents and members to join them for a community forum on Wednesday, May 19th at 5:30 PM in Smith-Buonanno Hall, room 106. Smith-Buonanno is located at 95 Cushing Street. The focus of this meeting will be on Brown’s summer construction projects. Part of Brown’s commitment to the neighboring community, this forum is the second of a series of regular community forums to provide updates, gather feedback, and discuss other topics of interest.

Downtown Improvement District celebrates 5th anniversary and unveils new economic development initiative to grow jobs in partnership with the Providence Foundation.

Increased participation in the city’s residential recycling program is already having a direct impact on the City’s bottom line, saving $50,000 a month in taxpayer dollars.  “Thanks to the extraordinary efforts of the families in our neighborhoods, we have already saved thousands of dollars by recycling at a higher participation rate than ever before,” said Mayor David N. Cicilline as he praised residents for helping the City surpass its Operation Opportunity goal by doubling Providence’s recycling rate six months ahead of schedule. 

This summer, Farm Fresh Rhode Island will offer Market Baskets at two of their Providence markets: Downtown and at the Armory. Now, you can support many local farms and artisans around the state and spend the week preparing delicious dishes at home.

The JDA is formulating its response to the final report from the Krieger Study (titled: "Rhode Island Interstate 195 Relocation Surplus Land: Redevelopment and Marketing Analysis" - 50MB file, very large).  We are seeking feedback and input from the JDA membership before submitting our thoughts to the city.
