About the Quality of Life in the Jewelry District

The Jewelry District is a mixed-use neighborhood in the heart of downtown Providence.  As such, it faces all the problems of residential neighborhoods, retail districts, and major institutions.  This creates unique challenges for the JDA to address, including:

  • Balancing an active nightlife and club scene with the needs of a residential neighborhood
  • Developing the District into a safe and secure place to live and work
  • Balancing park and retail storefront development to encourage pedestrians to walk the neighborhood with the more private and/or campus needs of large educational or hospital institutions
  • Creating a vibrant, walkable neighborhood that benefits residents and attracts customers to area businesses
