About the Jewelry District Association (JDA)

Mission of the Association:

The mission of the Jewelry District Association is to promote the development of the district, increase property values and enhance residential living.

The JDA accomplishes this mission through the volunteer efforts of its Board of Directors and members, and through membership dues, sponsorships and donations.  We need your help to make our joint vision for the Jewelry District a reality!  To get involved or to become a member of the district, go to the membership section.

Organizations the JDA Works Closely With:

The City of Providence:  Visit the City’s website for details about all government departments, vacation/ travel information, and much more.  Also sign up for the Art, Culture & Tourism e-newsletter and the official weekly City news!

Downtown Improvement District (DID):  The Providence Downtown Improvement District, which officially launched on February 26th 2005, focuses on two main program areas: Clean and Safe. The Clean and Safe programs complement—rather than replace—existing City services in the downtown area.

Safety Guides cover the district on foot and on bicycle, providing “watchful eyes” and promoting a friendly, safe downtown atmosphere. When special events take place downtown, Safety Guides are strategically placed near the venues in order to maximize their visibility and effectiveness.

The Clean Team handles litter removal, gum removal, sidewalk power washing, graffiti removal, cleaning of street appurtenances, weeding, and related tasks. Using new equipment such as sidewalk sweepers, power washers, and street vacuums, Team members have significantly improved the physical environment in a short amount of time.

Providence Police Department:  The JDA works with the District One division of the Providence Police Department to ensure the safety and security of residents, businesses and visitors to the Jewelry District.  Note that the site includes a Citizen's Observer Alert Network for you to post problems as they occur.

Providence Foundation:  The Foundation originates and advocates policies and projects for the development of downtown and the City.  It plays a leadership role in planning for downtown.  Its primary focus is to create an environment that is conducive to economic development and sustained investment in downtown and the creation of a vibrant neighborhood.

RI Economic Development Corporation: RIEDC, a non-profit formed by the state with broad coalition support to plan for and manage development in the state.
