On November 10th, the Providence Journal reported that the ill-starred building at 101 Richmond Street has been sold to Johnson & Wales. Over the years, the building has housed a string of troubled night clubs and bars, license revocations by the Board of Licenses.

Among problematic tenants in recent years have been Club Elements, Level II and Karma. On a night in 2010 Karma achieved special notoriety when one of the owners fired the pistol he carried in his suit coat pocket... while it was still in his pocket. The only damage, fortunately, was to his pocket and, perhaps, his self esteem. Scott McKay's summary of that event appears here.

Things became thoroughly law abiding at the site in the past couple years. The upstairs nightclub space was occupied by The Spot, the popular music venue. When an earlier sale was proposed, The Spot took up residence at The Colosseum.

The new owners are already busy fencing in the parking area around the building. As Kate Bramson reports in her Projo article, the future use of the building has not been specified by Johnson & Wales. All the details here.
