Larson has more than 25 years of experience and leadership with a wide variety of nonprofits. Her skills in strategic management and constituent engagement will enable PARL to build on its current strengths while growing to meet new opportunities.
Karin Morse, PARL board president, said "As we considered the attributes that would position the new executive director to bring PARL to the next level, we sought someone with Kara's leadership skills, knowledge of stewardship and ability to inspire. Her skills and experience are a great match for PARL at this stage of its vibrant and important 103-year history. She has a proven ability to forge meaningful relationships with new communities and establish effective programs, which will help us extend our reach and have a greater effect on the people and animals we serve."
Larson's career includes a wide variety of nonprofits including the University of North Carolina, San Francisco Opera, the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society, and a variety of consulting clients across North America. Most recently, she held a senior management position at Birmingham Royal Ballet in the United Kingdom, responsible for external relations. Previously, she was a volunteer at the Humane Society of Sarasota.
